Comic 740 -- Guests in San Quentin

Last day of 2017! Let's round off the year with an update, shall we?

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic740.html

Hmm... "Backup Contingency?" Well, I doubt it will come to that.

It's another year down, and I'm glad to have you all on board as Thunderstruck continues its strange and mythical course. See you in 2018, everyone!

Comic 739 -- Bella's Safeguards

Time to get Bella out of the box...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic739.html

Next month... I think things will be okay, but the holiday season is a bit iffy. I'll let you know if there's a hitch in the update schedule.

Comic 738 -- Tale of the Mah Brothers

We're back with Gail and her crew...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic738.html

Getting into and out of a high security prison looks like it's not even going to be the hardest part of all this.

Comic 737 -- I Am Not a Monster

A very raw deal for the Soames family...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic737.html

If you ever find yourself in a situation where you feel compelled to say "I am not a monster," it's probably a sign that you're a monster.

This was one of the tougher pages to write and draw. It took some time to find a balance point between getting across the awfulness of what was going on while not going for the horror gross-out.

Krylov sort of surprised me here. I don't actually know her very well as a character yet, so here was a chance to see how she reacted under extreme circumstances. Interesting. I'll have to see how she wants to behave in some of the future twists I've got planned...

Comic 736 -- Searching for an Anchor

Checking in with our Vigil fellows...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic736.html

Well, I know we've just officially met Mr. Soames here, but I feel sorry for the dude already. There's some fine print in the contract when you sign up for Vigil that he really should've paid more attention to.

Comic 735 -- Debts to be Paid

Mission accomplished! And then some...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic735.html

Next up, we'll be checking in with Vigil. What have those guys been up to, anyway?

Comic 734 -- A Long-Awaited Wish Granted

And there was much rejoicing!

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic734.html

You know, I didn't actually plan on what happened here with the unicorn. I included one on a whim when drawing the courtyard panel a couple strips ago, as one of the many victims held prisoner by the Songbirds of Rhiannon. But damned if Sharon didn't insist on rescuing the thing. She did try to warn me, so many years ago...

Now I'm not sure what to do with it. Unlikely the unicorn will play a huge role in the story to come, but you never know with these things. After all, in the original conception of Thunderstruck, Gail didn't play a huge role either. Look how that turned out.

Comic 733 -- The Hard Way

Well, here comes Plan B.

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic733.html

The thing about having the ability to heal yourself is that it sometimes opens up some pretty horrible options.

Worth it on the balance, but in the short term... ouch.

Comic 732 -- The Odysseus Gambit

Sharon looks for answers in Homer...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic732.html

... with somewhat mixed results. Maybe this would work better if she was dealing with threats from Greek mythology instead of Celtic mythology.

Speaking of mythology, I just enjoyed the Hel out of Neil Gaiman's Norse Mythology, which I would recommend to anyone who digs old legends like I do. Since you're here and reading this comic, odds are good that you fall into that category.

Will Sharon's next move draw from a different mythical inspiration? Tune in next month...

Comic 731 - All About the Hunting

And here we are...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic731.html

Well, either they'll get torn apart by hounds or have to figure out how to get by some seriously hypnotic singing birds. What to do, what to do...

Comic 730 -- Hags Are No Joke

While one might think it's all downhill after a giant sea monster...

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic730.html

... it really is a bad idea to underestimate a hag. Even the children of Thor get the willies when that sort of action goes down.

Comic 729 -- Battle with the Serpent, Part 3

If you're wondering where the "Ka-boom" is...

... I got you covered.

I had lots of fun drawing this battle. Hope you guys enjoyed it.

Can a hag be worse than a kaiju-class sea serpent? What about songbirds? We're about to find out...

Comic 728 -- Battle with the Serpent - Part 2

More action! Mythic forces hurl themselves into battle!

http://talesfromthevault.com/thunderstruck/comic728.html

Okay, it's only a few panels of big splashy images, but time is hard to come by in December. I'm pleased I was able to get something out at all.

Hope everyone had a good holiday... the story of Thunderstruck continues in 2017.
